Transport By air Larnaca International Airport (IATA: LCA) is the closest airport to Lefkosia and lies about 60km (37.2m) away on the southern coast.  There are up to 30 daily bus shuttle services that run between the airport and Lefkosia, non-stop and cost approximately €5. Taxis are also readily available, as well as private car hire companies. Pafos International Airport (PFO) is Cyprus’ secondary airport and lies approximately 98.6km (61.2m) southeast of Lefkosia. Lefkosia is easily reached from Pafos via bus shuttle, private car hire or taxi. Nicosia (Lefkosia) International Airport (IATA: NIC) was the principal airport of Cyprus.  As a result of the Turkish Invasion in 1974, Turkey came to occupy the north part of the island. NIC lies directly in the United Nations Buffer Zone separating the occupied areas from free areas of Cyprus. NIC Airport has been inoperable since 1974 and currently is under the control of UNFICYP, serving as the force's headquarters. Airlines More than 30 airlines connect Lefkosia and Cyprus to all major European and Middle Eastern destinations. Cyprus Airways is the island’s national carrier. It operates scheduled services to over 30 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and the Gulf. Its main operational bases are Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. By Road Motorways link Lefkosia with other major urban areas in Cyprus. The A1 connects it with Limassol in the south with the A6 going from Limassol onto Paphos. The A2 links Lefkosia with the south eastern city of Larnaca with the A3 going from Larnaca to Ayia Napa. The A9 connects Lefkosia to the Troodos Mountains.
